Most SBT remanufactured engines are sold through a core-exchange program. That means a rebuildable core engine must be sent in either before or alongside the order. Core engines must be in rebuildable condition — no cracks or holes in the cases, cylinders, crankshaft, or head. Engines that don't meet core condition standards may affect the transaction, so inspect the core before shipping.

Shipping cost is calculated at checkout and varies by location. Some engines ship on a "core-first" basis, meaning SBT receives and inspects the core before the remanufactured unit ships out. Check the product page or contact SBT directly for details specific to the engine model being purchased.

SBT's core exchange works like this: SBT ships the remanufactured engine first, and the customer sends their old core back within 2 weeks of receiving it. The advertised price already reflects that exchange. There is no separate core charge added to the order.

Charges can apply after the fact if a core comes back late, is missing parts, or has broken components. For 2-stroke engines, damage to cast aluminum parts (cases, head, cylinder, crank webs) may result in a charge; normal wear items like sleeves, bearings, and rods are replaced during the rebuild and do not count against the core. For 4-stroke engines, SBT's policy is more flexible — cores are generally accepted even with significant internal damage, as long as they arrive undamaged from shipping.

New SBT aftermarket parts — such as new short blocks, complete engines, and heads carrying 24-, 28-, 66-, and 29-series SKUs — require no core at all. See the product page for current pricing and to confirm whether an item is remanufactured or new.

SBT's remanufactured engine program requires a good, rebuildable core in exchange for every unit sold. This applies across models — Kawasaki, Yamaha, Sea-Doo, and others. There is no surcharge or deposit option that lets a buyer skip the core return; the core is a hard requirement to place the order.

If the original core is damaged beyond use (rod through the block, for example), SBT cannot accept it as a viable exchange. In that situation, the most common path is sourcing a replacement core from a salvage yard before ordering. For certain high-demand engines, SBT also operates on a "core-first" basis, meaning the old engine must be received and inspected before the remanufactured unit is built and shipped. If the situation is unclear for a specific model, contact SBT directly to confirm which program applies and what condition standards the core must meet.

Labor rates for PWC engine installation vary widely based on geographic location, the shop's hourly rate, and how much disassembly is required for a given model. There is no industry-standard flat rate SBT can point to.

If a shop is doing the work, it is worth asking them whether they want to source the engine themselves or whether they will install a customer-supplied unit — some shops charge differently depending on where the part comes from.

SBT's showroom is located in Clearwater, FL and is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM Eastern. To use will-call pickup, place the order online or by phone before arriving — walk-in orders are not guaranteed to be pulled and ready on the spot. Processing time varies by item; some parts are ready same day, while others (such as seat covers or remanufactured engines) may take several business days to prepare.

For core exchanges, customers can drop off the old engine and pick up the remanufactured replacement at the same location. The core must be in good condition (no cracks or holes) and must be stripped of all ancillary parts not required for the core exchange before arrival — SBT staff will not disassemble cores on-site.

Customers can shop on sbt.com and complete a purchase without creating an account in advance. When an order is placed online, the system automatically generates an account based on the contact and shipping information provided during checkout.
